Sent!

Right. The thesis proposal is mailed to my thesis adviser and the committee.

The title is titled, eventually...

Health message sources, stroke knowledge, and emotions among older adults.

I have about two weeks to get my presentation ready, and get charged up for the proposal defense. I hope everything goes fine and dandy.

Thesis Proposal Is (Almost) Ready

Oh my gosh, it's so quick! I'm scared now!

Proposal defense is going to be on August 16, at 10am.

I have to mail out the proposal to the committee members by July 28.

Then, I'll have to get ready a presentation for the meeting.

It's exciting, yet I'm feeling frantic.

My thesis adviser, on the other hand, is really comfortable with the report. I hope no one grills me that day.

I've come up with a tentative title for my research. It is

Source evaluation within a social network:
Social construction of emotions among the older adults in congregate living facility

It is a mouthful, I know.

Still attempting to think of a better title.

Didn't I already say that thinking of a title is worse than writing the proposal itself!!!

All right, hoping to meet my thesis adviser for one last time before the defense next week.

TITLE

My thesis needs a title!

Coming up with a title is hard. It's even harder than writing the report.

Revision, Pass, Proposal Defense!

I just had a FINAL meeting with my thesis adviser. After approximately 1 and a half hours and a croissant later, she said:

Yup. Let's go ahead and fix a proposal defense date.

I will have about 2 weeks to finish revising, get my references written, put everything together in APA format, and I'm ready to go.

Possible defense dates are August 15, 16 or 17, subject to availability of the committee members.

Shall keep all posted. Peace.

Things are taking shape

So now all three chapters are done. All I have to do is to re-read them once through, edit all parts that don't make sense or lack explanation, and send it to my thesis adviser by Wednesday night.

Then we'll meet on Friday, at approximately 2pm EST.

Pray for me!

A July Update

Time flies. It's July.

While the sun is burning mercilessly on almost all of Planet Earth's tenants, deadline is looming for a certain individual.

Yes. That's Me.

1. Proposal Defense Date
My prof has agreed that August 16 or 17 will be the best dates for defense.

2. Leave my intro alone!
That was the instruction from my prof and I am to leave the intro alone, for now.

3. Including sound arguments in the proposal and according to the prof:

a) The intro should include why i want to do the study, how the study will contribute to
knowledge, and its social relevance.

b) The lit review should put forth all the arguments for this research. For instance, if my research will be socially relevant/contribute to current knowledge, what needs to be known? What do people know already? What do I have to find out?

c) The methodology section will put forth how I intend to find out what i set out in a & b.

4. Planning the event
Will need to plan a one-week Stroke Awareness Week in the first week of September. Meeting with the administrators next week.

5. HSR Checklist
Easy thing to deal with, right after the proposal defense. Yay!

(Post script: My resident proof-reader just said my Intro sucks. Now that I re-read everything, I think ALL three chapters suck. I guess I have to re-write them, which may take another year or two. Which means, I may not get to come home...)
